In 2012, software engineer JT Marino stumbled across a problem—buying a mattress totally sucked.
Between confusing buzzwords, pushy salespeople, and backwards policies, JT knew there was an opportunity to take an archaic industry and turn it upside down. Enter Daehee Park, his long time friend and colleague. They launched a simple test site to see if anyone out there would actually be interested in buying a mattress online.
It turns out, a lot of people were searching for an easier way.
Tuft & Needle quickly grew from two software engineers fed up with the mattress industry to a team of over 150 people working each day to bring you premium sleep products at an honest cost.
By prioritizing the customer and crafting an experience based on their feedback, we kicked off a series of industry-disrupting changes that caught the attention of customers. T&N taught sleepers that they don’t have to accept unfair practices and manipulative tactics just to get a good night’s sleep.
But there’s more work to be done. We sought out a partner who would elevate our mission to a much bigger platform. In 2018, Serta Simmons Bedding, the world’s leading mattress manufacturer, merged with Tuft & Needle to bring their combined 220 years of knowledge to our team. We are working together to bring the customer to the forefront of every mattress purchase and transform the industry on a massive scale.
Together, we are radically reshaping how we think about sleep, mattresses, and shopping—and we’re just getting started.
